golfers enjoy first Hippo Golf Open
HUTTO, Texas --
The Hutto Chamber of
Commerce's 2005 Hippo Golf Open Tournament was a success
despite cloudy skies July 16. While Austin and Hutto both
received heavy rain, players on the greens and fairways of the
Golf Club Star Ranch saw only a light sprinkling of
raindrops during tournament play.
More than 100 golfers
participated in the four-man scramble event held at Hutto's
award-winning Star Ranch golf course.
The first-place team of Herman
Miller, George Glaspie, Floyd Chambers and Waldo Villarreal
scored a 47 and each won a Hippo ITX 2 driver courtesy of
Hippo Golf, the tournament title sponsor for 2005.
The second-place team of John
Franklin, David Franklin, John Pfluger and Mickey Buratti
scored a 52 and each player will receive a Hippo Golf ITX
utility club.
Third-place team-members Ken
Ludwig, Joel Coombs, Kenny Essenburg and Kevin Wilhite scored
a 53 and won their choice between a Hippo Golf NG 2 putter or
HWT 56 degree wedge.
John Lahmon won a $100 gift
certificate to Golfsmith for having the longest drive of the
day. Mark Aspenleiter was the winner of the closest-to-the-pin
contest and was awarded a $100 gift certificate to the Star
Ranch pro shop. The putting contest winner was Kevin Wilhite
who received a $150 Golfsmith gift certificate.
No one won the Chrysler 300C
offered as the prize for the hole-in-one contest sponsored
by Maxwell Country.
Many thanks to members of the
Hippo Open Golf Tournament committee, including chairman Ken
Ludwig, Jennifer Heddlesten, Joscelyn Murray, Margie Hurst,
Kae Porter, Polo Enriquez and Kimberly Windham, for all their
hard work in putting together a first-rate event. Many Chamber
members, board members and Ambassadors turned out to help on
tournament day. Their contribution was vital to the success of
